An Indian Zaghnal, A Chinese Axe, And Three African Tribal Weapons
19th Century And Later

The first with steel head comprising beak-shaped double-edged blade of flattened diamond section overlaid in brass with a male and female figure in contemporary costume between brass-inlaid line borders and pierced with an arabesque on both sides, socket with foliage en suite, and cupola-shaped peen, surmounted by a spike, on hardwood haft of tapering circular section with spherical brass terminal; the second with heavy crescentic blade decorated on each side with silver-damascened bats within a roped border, and mounted on a cast dragon's head retaining some original gilding, on threaded tubular steel haft retaining traces of silver-damascened whorls and geometric ornament (some wear and rust patination) and multi-faceted terminal en suite; the last comprising a Nagala execution knife, with characteristic blade hooked at the top, pierced with holes and with four projections along the back, and wooden grip of three graduated compressed spheres: in a perspex display case, a Poto of russet steel, with broad double-edged leaf-shaped blade incised with notched line ornament over both sides, and mounted on a wooden grip (termite damage): in a perspex display case, and a Banza throwing knife (rusted overall), of characteristic form with hooked and arrowhead-shaped blades, and wooden grip bound with twisted copper wire (5)
