A Pair Of Indian Decorative Axes, And An Indian Dhal
Late 19th Century Or Later

The first each with large crescentric blade decorated on both sides with applied incised brass figures in contemporary costume, each within an arcade and framed by incised brass foliage, and rectangular sockets inlaid with brass calligraphy and each surmounted by a spike, on tapering hardwood hafts of circular section; the second of brass and of convex form, with four domed bosses each chased as a flower-head against a black enamel ground, the outer surface chased with punched symmetrical designs of foliage against light blue and red enamel grounds, the interior retaining its velvet pad; and a North African jambiya with brass and white-metal mounts, and two suspension rings (4)
