A North Or East European Zischägge
Mid-17th Century

Of russet iron, with hemispherical fluted skull made in two-pieces (holes and lamination, particularly on the inside) secured by rivets with domed brass heads, surmounted by a brass disc, recessed lower border, and with a plume-holder at the rear, separate pointed fixed peak with turned edge, and pierced for an adjustable bar-nasal with fleur-de-lys finial and secured by a wing-headed screw, bluntly-pointed neck-guard of three simulated lames with turned edge, later single-plate cheek-pieces, and domed brass-headed rivets throughout (some surface rust); together with a tasset for the right thigh, 17th century, of seven downward-lapping lames each with cusped lower edge, and dome-headed rivets on later leathers (some pitting); and a pair of rowel spurs, 17th century, of iron, each with star-shaped rowel, and terminals with rectangular piercings for leathers (missing, pitted overall) (4)
