A Shaffron In German 'Maximilian' Style Of The Early 16th Century
19th Century

Of bright steel and made in three parts riveted together, the main plate shaped over the brow and with three bands of characteristic fluting between incised lines, separate riveted ear-pieces en suite, flanged over the eyes and with cusped lower borders punched with dots, central spike bolted through a shield-shaped escutcheon etched with a crowned lion rampant in a landscape against a granular ground, X-shaped plate over the muzzle terminating in a plate over the nose, the latter fluted en suite with the brow-plate and with turned and roped border followed by a line of dome-headed rivets
54.5 cm.
