A German Comb Morion, A Grandguard, And A Circular Shield (Target)
The First Late 16th/Early 17th Century, The Last Two In Mid-Late 16th Century Style, 19th Century

The first with two-piece rounded skull rising to a high roped comb, the former etched on each side with a central fleur-de-lys surrounded by foliage, all with plain band borders and against dotted grounds, the latter with a male portait medallion and foliage en suite on both sides (worn on one side), the brim curving up fore and aft, etched with two bands of ropework and with turned and crimped borders (etching probably later, rivet washers missing); the second shaped to fit the left pauldron and upper left side of the breast-plate, the outer surface etched with three quatrefoils each centred on a lion rampant against a dotted guard, outer border etched with meandering foliage, and riveted reinforcing mount around the outside; the last made of one plate rising up to a central riveted spike mounted on a double leaf-calyx, the turned and roped outer border followed by a row of lining rivets with domed brass heads within an inner incised line (surface rust) (3)
