A Sporting Crossbow In Late 16th Century Style
19th Century

With robust blackened steel bow and mount, the latter with brass fore-sight and threaded ring at the front, original string of twisted cords, wooden tiller inlaid along each side in engraved bone with fish of varying sizes against a ground of ball-flowers, one side with a roundel at the bow carved in relief with St. George slaying the Dragon, and on the other with the Martyrdom of St. Sebastian, the cheek-piece with a dragon, a griffin and a boar, and on the other side with a roundel (missing) between sea-monsters, along the top (three panels missing) with an heraldic shield, the figure of an armoured knight and foliate ovals, all against a ground of bone dots within bone line borders, horn butt-plate engraved with a trousse scabbard, brass nut, steel trigger-lever (detached), triggers, and lugs for a cranequin
