A Mahogany Gun Case
By Joseph Manton, No. 11 Hanover Square, London, Circa 1820-25

Lined and fitted for a d.b. flintlock sporting gun and accessories, the interior of the lid with maker's trade label (minor staining), the exterior of the lid (minor chips and bruising) with flush-fitting brass carrying handle centred on a circular brass escutcheon engraved with the initial 'A', a baron's coronet above, and retaining its original key
86.8 cm. X 23.5 cm.

The initial on the escutcheon may be that of Sir Robert Shafto Adair, 1st Bt. of Flixton Hall, Suffolk
