Footnotes
This is an elaborate example of a type of sword of which many examples are found in the Doges' Armoury in the Palazzo Ducale, Venice. They are referred to in the early inventories as 'spada schiovonesca'. See Lionello G. Boccia and Eduardo T. Coelho, Armi Bianche Italiane, 1975, p. 345, nos. 165-167 (illustrated)
