A European Transitional Rapier
Mid-Late 17th Century

With slender tapering blade of stiff diamond section incised 'TOMASO VALA EN TOLEDO' between 'X' marks within the fuller over each side of the forte, blackened steel hilt comprising side-ring with double central feature chiselled as berries, quillons with terminals en suite, fluted compressed globular pommel chiselled with fruiting foliage on top and with button finial, and vertically reeded grip bound with finely twisted wire between Turk's heads
