A Spanish Cup-Hilt Rapier
Late 17th/Early 18th Century

With slender tapering blade of flattened diamond section cut with a central fuller over nearly its entire length each side, rectangular ricasso hollowed on each side, cup-guard with line engraved border, roped upper edge and pierced quillon support on each side, one drawn-up to form the partly writhen knuckle-guard screwed to the pommel at the top, straight quillons en suite and with button terminals, compressed pommel with spirally-fluted border and button, and vertically grooved grip bound with twisted steel wire between Turk's heads (some rust patination)
