A Venetian Or Dalmatian Shiavona
18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade fullered over each face of the forte and deeply struck with a cross mark beyond, characteristic guard comprising a fan-shaped arrangement of bars each with medial ridge, pinched in at the top and overlapping diagonal side-bars, the latter joined to each other by riveted crescent-shaped bars incised with triple line ornament, inner-guard with a similar arrangement of plain bars and incorporating a thumb-ring, rear quillon (repaired) with button terminal, moulded button front quillon and guard with terminal en suite, later grip bound with twisted iron wire, and shield-shaped brass pommel cast with a rosette on each side (russet overall)
