With tapering double-edged blade (some rust patination and light pitting) incised with marks within the narrow central fuller on both sides of the forte, hilt comprising double shell-guard with moulded borders and cast with foliage centred on a grotesque mask on the inner edges on both sides, knuckle-guard hooked into the globular pommel, the latter with flattened button on a foliate border, scrolled side-bars linking the knuckle-guard to the shell-guard, and original wooden grip bound with three thicknesses of twisted brass wire, in the remains of its leather scabbard
