The First Late 17th/Early 18th Century, The Second Late 18th/Early 19th Century
The first with curved blade (some rust patination) fullered along the back for most of its length on each side, hilt with recurved double shell-guard, the outer cast with a stylised lion's head, downbent rear quillon, knuckle-guard, and two-piece grip in Ceylonese kastana style indented for the fingers, cast with foliage along the back, and with monster-head pommel; the second with blade of similar form to the last and stamped with the running fox mark and initials of Samuel Harvey of Birmingham on each side, hilt with heart-shaped guard engraved 'M = Cumberland' and '5' over '56', two side-bars swept-up to join the knuckle-guard, globular pommel, and writhen grip (2)
