The First Late 17th Century, Indistinct Silver Marks, The Second Mid-18th Century
The first with curved fullered blade double-edged at the tip (extreme tip missing, patches of rust patination and pitting), hilt comprising recurved quillons with swelling tips and small pellet terminal, domed silver pommel-cap surmounted by a button on a border of trefoils, basal mount, and natural stag horn grip, in its black leather scabbard (crazed, mounts missing); the second with fullered tapering blade (surface rust and pitting) retaining traces of etched decoration on both sides of the forte, hilt (incomplete) cast and chased with panels of trophies and foliage on punched grounds, and ribbed leather-covered grip bound with twisted silver wire (2)
