A German Hunting Sword
Late 17th/Early 18th Century

With tapering blade double-edged at the point and saw-backed above a fuller over most of its length on each side, one side etched with a partly illegible inscription and with a boar-hunting scene in a landscape at the forte, and on the other side with a hound pursuing a stag in a landscape inhabited by a hare and a bear, hilt comprising iron knuckle-guard with central swelling and downcurved quillon with beaked terminal, and natural stag horn grip chequered at the base and set with five iron dome-headed nails on one side (pommel-cap missing, some pitting overall)
