With steel head comprising off-set angular blade deeply stamped on one side with three marks shaped as bunches of grapes, pierced with a slipped trefoil and two groups of circular holes, and socket with lightly chequered block-shaped peen, on wooden haft inlaid with bone plaques engraved with flowers and ropework against a ground of stag-horn dots, the back at the top with Christ crucified, and beaked bone basal mount engraved with the arms of Saxony in a circle on one side, and on the other with a crossed pick and hammer between the date above the initials 'GF'
