A Rare Ballock Dagger
Probably Flemish, 15th Century

With robust sharply tapering blade of off-set stiff diamond section, ricasso of rectangular section sheathed in brass incised with hatched inscription 'INTE' on one side and 'MNE' on the other, decorated with hatched chevrons along the back, and with further hatched letters (brass worn off along each side) beneath, hilt comprising lobed iron quillons each cut with a 'mouth' possibly intended to engage with the scabbard locket, tapering wooden grip of circular section with brass ferrules, and slightly domed circular iron pommel-cap (some pitting)
