A Scottish Officer's Presentation Sabre To Major Patterson By his Troop Of Fife Light Dragoons
By Knubley & Co., No. 7 Charing Cross, London, dated 1799

The blade bright over half its length and retaining faint traces of etched decoration including the figure of Britannia and royal arms on one side, and crowned 'GR' cypher and martial trophy on the other, the forte boldly etched and gilt against a blued ground on one side with a martial trophy, a cavalryman on horseback and a foliate swag centred on a mask, and on the other with crowned 'GR' cypher between martial trophies, steel stirrup hilt with fluted and beaded borders, langets engraved with a differing martial trophy, and wire-bound leather-covered grip, in original lightly tooled black leather scabbard (some wear) with pierced border engraved steel mounts decorated with trophies of arms and designs of foliage on the outside, the locket applied on the outside with an ovoidal bronze plaque engraved in script with the presentation inscription within a beaded border, and on the inside engraved with maker's details in an oval suspended from a ribbon, and with two split-rings for suspension (some minor rust patination)
