Fine set of Emerson's Complete Works, including some of his famous essays published here for the first time. The leaf of manuscript is from one of Emerson's notebooks, the recto reading "Bagatelle. In England they spend for comfort - in France for pleasure. The lighter minded English go to France or establish a little France in England. The soberer French, the Hugenot down to this day, if one is left, makes a little England around him in France".
