Two Juvenile T. rex Teeth in Matrix

Tyrannosaurus rex
Late Cretaceous
Hell Creek Formation, Powder River County, Montana

These two complete juvenile T. rex teeth boast excellent brown enamel, full tips (except for some interesting natural feeding wear) and good serrations. The specimens were recovered in an ancient river or lakebed on a private ranch in the 65-67-million-year-old Hell Creek Formation of Powder River County, Montana. The squared-off shape of the bases of the teeth is characteristic of the species. There is still some debate as to whether the smaller, more slender teeth of the juvenile T. rex belong to T. rex or are actually adult teeth of the smaller genus, Nanotyrannus. This is a difficult question to answer because both are found in geologic formations of the same age. All T. rex teeth are shed teeth except the very few that have been found with skeletons. Specimens measuring 1 ¾in and 1 3/8in, respectively
