Eurypterus remipes is the New York State Fossil. Eurypterids, or Sea Scorpions, are an extinct group of arthropods known from the Ordovician to the Permian. Displaying a head, a segmented body and a tail, the majority of Eurypterids possessed a pair of paddle-like appendages for locomotion in water. The present large specimen, accompanied by two additional specimens, measures eight inches in length. Matrix measures 16 x 12in; Largest specimen measures 8in
