Russian Trilobite
Hoplolichas furcifer
Ordivician, Paleozoic
Laba River Basin, St. Petersburg, Russia
Hoplolichas furcifer is an uncommon species. This example displays characteristic spines, two barbed horns extending backward from the cephalon (head), two long spines behind its compound eyes and rows of sharp spines along the center and both sides of its body. Every detail is preserved, such as the individual calcite lenses of the compound eyes and the small bumps (postules) scattered on the head and body. This is a rare trilobite, rarely offered, and in great demand for its beauty.
