Big Nephrite Bi Disc on Wooden Stand
Polar Jade Mine, British Colombia
One hundred miles east of the Alaskan Border, the Polar Jade Mine is the premier source for British Columbian nephrite which is exported around the world. The mining season is short and the source a limited supply making nephrite from this source a desirable commodity. Fred Ward described this nephrite in the Lapidary Journal, November 1998, as, "the newest, brightest, most translucent, greenest, hardest nephrite yet discovered." The present offering is a slab of nephrite carved into a Chinese "bi" disc, removable from a custom-built wooden stand. Diameter of disc: 12 in. Height overall with stand: 14 in
