Reverse Carved Quartz Skull Pendant by Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio
A contemporary memento mori but with punk inspiration, the hand-carved rock crystal skull is reverse intaglio carved from the bottom to depict another skull from within. The interior skull is gold vermeil washed to allow it to stand out in high-relief. The eyes of the skull are pave-set with a cluster of small black, brilliant-cut diamonds. A spiky gold vermeil band adorns the Mohawk up-do. Suspended from a patinated silver chain, with a toggle clasp in the shape of a bone. Length 20in
Footnotes
Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio
Following a second-generation family tradition in the fabrication of objects d'art, Luis' studio specializes in the carving of ruby. The second hardest stone after diamond, few artists have managed to successfully work this mineral since it requires a very advanced technique for carving and polishing. His works are displayed in museums in the United States and Europe and are enjoyed by private collectors around the world.
