西藏 十四/十五世紀 銅鎏金文殊菩薩坐像
Manjushri is sumptuously adorned with an encrusted turquoise and coral crown, floral armbands, earrings, and beaded necklaces. Seated in dhyanasana on a crisp lotus throne framed by beaded borders, his hands are held in dharmacakrapavartana mudra, the gesture of forwarding the dharma. The mudra gives rise to a pair of blue lotuses flowering at his shoulder with the Prajnaparamita manuscript and the wisdom-sword. Manjushri, the deity of learning and transcendental wisdom, is most often associated with these two attributes.
The bronze compares favorably to related examples sold at Sotheby's, New York, 21 March 2002, lot 156, Bonhams, Hong Kong, 4 Dec 2008, lot 287, and Christie's, New York, 13 September 2016, lot 216.
