The Treaty of Utrecht was a series of individual peace treaties signed in the Dutch city of Utrecht in March and April 1713. The Peace finally brought the War of the Spanish Succession to a conclusion. The Treaties involved Spain, Great Britain, France, Portugal, Savoy and the Dutch Republic. Thanks to the military achievements of the Duke of Marlborough, Great Britain under Queen Anne benefited more than anyone and the Peace was celebrated extensively in Britain. Although the treaty was signed in Holland, the Peace received only a muted response in the Dutch Republic and so it seems likely this glass was engraved in England rather than in Holland.
