An Art Deco diamond brooch, Raymond Templier, circa 1930
Footnotes
Raymond Templier (b. 1891) was a pioneering jewelry artist of the Art Deco era whose dramatic avant-garde jewelry is highly sought after today. After joining the family business in 1919, he personally changed the staid traditional designs of his father and grandfather, in the House of Templier, into hugely innovative designs incorporating Cubism and elements of the machine age: curving geometric shapes with simple black and white imagery.
The simplicity of the brilliance of the diamonds against the sheer whiteness of the platinum, set within the dramatic curving and straight lines creates drama and eclectic nuance. This is best exemplified in his diamond and platinum pieces, as in this spectacular and rare brooch.
