Footnotes

PROVENANCE
Private collection, Sydney

Note:
The intended wucai bowl belongs to a well-known imperial group which started its production during the Kangxi era and well continued to the Guangxu period. The standard process was first painting the under-glaze blue for the first round of firing and then applying the enamel of green, iron red, aubergine, and yellow. The making of the bowl stops short however without the enamel, which reveals the complicated process of imperial porcelain production.
