This is a very special model of the Leica IIIC which incorporates a delayed reaction, hence its terminology of Leica IIID. This camera was produced during the Second World War circa 1943 with an estimated total production of just over 400 units.
The delayed action mechanism release arm is different from that found on the later IIIF's. The delayed action mechanism of the IIID was most unreliable. In addition this camera also has the rare red blinds. Red blinds were fitted when the traditional black material was unavailable due to the war. However, over the years most red blinds have been replaced by current black blinds which were more efficient at guarding the light
