Further engraved to one side with a flowering rose and to the other with thistles, the rim with a stylised band of thistles, on a short stem with triple annulated knop, on heavy flat foot.


Of ecclesiastic origin, the name MacPherson is derived from the gaelic Macaphersein, meaning 'Son of the Parson'. The clan is reputed to have been founded by Murdo Cattenach, a priest of Kingussie in Badenoch. The current 27th Clan Chief is the Hon. Sir William MacPherson, who resides at the family seat of Newton Castle, Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
