Of fruitwood, with convex front and flat back, the former carved in low relief with a griffin and foliage within borders of beadwork and flowering foliage, the latter (minor splits) with turned outer border, encircled by a brass strap carrying the tubular brass nozzle with sprung tap, the mount engraved as a prone hound, and two roped rings for suspension

The work of the as yet unidentified stockmaker 'The Master of the Animal-Head Scroll' includes a number of weapons connected with the court of the Habsburg Emperor Ferdinand III (1637-57), of which three are believed to have belonged to the Emperor himself, and some of his stocks have locks and barrels by Vienna and Salzburg makers.
