With broad double-edged blade with central fuller over half its length on each side, border engraved ricasso struck with two shield-shaped marks each bearing a cross on one side, hilt with characteristic iron basket-guard (some pitting) comprising a fan-shaped arrangement of flat radiating bars pinched in and joined at the top to a wide diagonal bar pierced with a row of chevroned trelliswork, inner-guard with a similar arrangement of three bars, inner thumb-ring, curved rear quillon with rounded terminal, shield-shaped brass pommel with raised central boss on each side, and swelling cord-bound leather-covered grip
