With tapering fullered blade (some pitting) double-edged towards the point, the forte on one side etched with pre-1801 royal arms, a martial trophy and foliate scrollwork, and on the other with 'GR' crowned between foliate scrollwork, the back etched with bladesmith's name 'J.J. Runkel, Solingen', steel hilt comprising 'feathered' langets, lobed rear quillon, tapering knuckle-guard pierced for a ring at the top, flat beaked pommel-cap with button and faceted back-piece in one, and swelling ribbed ivory grip (old splits)
