A Balkan 8-Bore Miquelet-Lock Gun (Džerferdar)
Late 17th/18th Century, Boka Kotorska Or Fojnica

With Turkish twist octagonal sighted barrel in three stages divided by silver bands and inlaid over its entire length with symmetrical designs of silver arabesques, knotted trefoils and flower-heads (minor losses), arched single-aperture back-sight inlaid with two silver lines (incomplete), engraved tang, characteristic lock with silver border, figured full stock with fluted fore-stock (minor damage along one side), butt of ovoidal form inlaid with diamond-shaped pieces and roundels of mother-of-pearl, horn and coral (corallium rubrum) enriched with copper nails and brass pins (some losses), the alternate lines of mother-of-pearl and coral roundels between pewter lines, a brass band around the rear of the butt chased with running arabesques against a hatched ground and with an extension along the comb, silver trigger-guard, suspension rings, brass fore-end bands, foliate engraved brass fore-end mount also forming the ramrod-entry, and steel ramrod, probably original
