A Turkish Yataghan, And A Balkan Yataghan
The First Dated 1213 A.H. Corresponding To 1798 A.D., The Second Dated 1804, Probably Boka Kotorska

The first with slightly recurved single-edged blade (some rust patination), one side at the forte with gold-inlaid panel (some wear) dated and inscribed with a couplet in praise of the yataghan in naskh, a shaped gilt filigree mount over the forte, down the back of the blade and around the grip-strap set with numerous fluted oval red corals (corallium rubrum, some missing), the latter with three foliate engraved square silver mounts (one replaced, grips missing); the second with shortened blade (light pitting) with silver-inlaid decoration along the back on each side, the hilt overlaid with silver (damaged, grips missing) nielloed with foliage, in original wood-lined silver scabbard entirely nielloed with flower-heads and scrollwork against punched grounds, one side nielloed with the date divided by the suspension loop, locket with bands of plaiting and beading, and spherical chape deeply cast and chased with foliage (2)
