The Second Probably Bukhara, All 19th Century
The first with broad curved double-edged blade of finely watered wootz steel cut with two recessed fullers over each side forming a medial ridge to the brightly polished point of diamond section, the forte on both sides chiselled with gold-damascened foliage against a punched ground, and steel hilt (grips missing) decorated overall with damascened engraved gold foliage and comprising pinched-in basal mount and trefoil-shaped pommel, the latter with small finial, in later velvet-covered scabbard with silvered copper chape embossed with foliage; the second with single-edged blade of finely watered wootz steel, and pinched-in silver basal mount nielloed with foliage (grip missing), in its velvet-covered leather scabbard with deep silver locket and chape each embossed with symmetrical arabesques on the outside, the former with suspension loop on the inside and retaining its velvet-covered leather suspension strap with tassels; the last with single-edged wootz steel blade roughly incised with the date 1197 A.H. corresponding to 1782 A.D. on one side at the forte, seamed white-metal hilt of tapering circular section decorated with wrigglework, and domed parcel-gilt pommel, in its silver scabbard of tapering circular section decorated with trellised foliage and running arabesques between plain silver bands, the latter securing the suspension mount and loop, and locket cast with a petalled band above a band of trefoils; together with an Uzbeck silk-backed belt embroidered with a geometric design in coloured threads, the mounts including a white-metal buckle set with a carnelian (4)
