An Unusual Small Indian Dagger, A Small Indian Kard, And A Ceylonese Piha-Kaetta
The First Late 18th Century, Probably Lucknow, The Remainder Late 18th/19th Century

The first with tapering double-edged blade of finely watered wootz steel cut with two shallow fullers forming a medial ridge to the point of diamond section (hilt missing, tang incomplete), and retaining its hinged silver terminal pierced with an arabesque, in original wooden scabbard covered in burgundy velvet (plush worn) with shaped silver locket and chape enamelled in blue and green with foliage inhabited by birds on the outside, the former with pierced suspension loop, the latter with bud-shaped finial (minor loss of enamel); the second with recurved sharply pointed blade of finely watered wootz steel with medial cusp on the back, the forte on each side with a panel of gold-damascened flowers, the back of the blade at the forte and baluster basal mount of octagonal section decorated en suite (hilt missing); the last with broad single-edged blade (some pitting) inlaid with foliate engraved brass panels along the back, on each side at the forte and within the fuller along the top edge on both sides, basal mount chiselled with brass-inlaid foliage, stepped silver-covered hilt (grips missing, foliate engraved silver mounts loose), and silver pommel-cap embossed with scrollwork and surmounted by a button finial, in original fluted two-piece scabbard carved with foliage at the chape and with deep brass locket (3)
