A .451 Whitworth Patent Percussion Match Rifle
By James W. Rosier, Melbourne, No. 2191, Circa 1865

With browned barrel (some light pitting in places) cut with Whitworth rifling, signed in front of the calibrated folding adjustable back-sight (adjustable fore-sight missing) and engraved 'Whitworth Patent' at the breech, border engraved case-hardened breech with platinum plug, tang, signed detented lock and hammer en suite, blued safety-stop in front of the latter, figured half-stock (minor bruising) with chequered pistol-grip and fore-end, the former with border engraved case-hardened ovoidal cap with hinged circular butt-trap cover, the latter with dark horn fore-end cap, border engraved russet mounts comprising butt-plate and trigger-guard, the comb of the butt fitted with a case-hardened mount for a long range peep-sight (missing), vacant silver escutcheon, sling mounts, original steel ramrod with turned revolving head, and much original finish, London proof marks
