A Rare Indian Sosunpattah
19th Century

With watered single-edged blade of recurved yataghan form with incised decoration on both sides, the back of the blade and the forte on each side gold-damascened with scrolling foliage involving flower-heads, steel hilt of tulwar form chiselled overall in bas-relief with gilt foliage against a ground of encrusted silver pellets, and comprising pointed langets, button quillons, disc-shaped pommel with domed finial surmounted by a button with gold-damascened tassel loop pierced with arabesques, and swelling grip, in original wooden scabbard covered in green velvet with silver bullion trim, pierced steel suspension mount and chape both damascened in gold and silver en suite with the hilt, the former with pierced loop, complete with its original knotted tassel of silver brocade carrying ten lobe-shaped fluted drops of yellow resin, and in fine condition overall
