A North Italian Burgonet, And A Breast-Plate
Both Late 16th Century

The first of russet steel, with one piece skull rising to a prominent roped comb (patched internal repairs) and extending to form a pointed peak and neck-guard (point slightly incomplete) with slightly recessed turned and roped edge, the skull etched over both sides with a band of scrolling foliage against a granular ground, the comb etched en suite and involving winged demi-figures, grotesque and cornucopia, the decoration extending over the peak and neck-guard, hinged ear-pieces each pierced with small holes, and rivets with domed brass heads (the interior painted black); the second of russet steel, with medial ridge drawn-out to a point at the base and with narrow flanged skirt with short straight edge at the front, the neck, arms and skirt with plain turns, the last bordered by circular holes, and retaining its pivot-catches and staples for shoulder-straps (some pitting overall) (2)
