Although not illustrated, this glass was mentioned by Grant R. Francis in his Old English Drinking Glasses (1926) as being in the possession of Mr Hamilton Clements, see the caption to pl. LVIII, fig.346. The glass that Grant Francis shows as fig.346 also appears in G Bernard Hughes' English, Scottish and Irish Table Glass (1956), pl.132, fig.114 and shows the King fully in profile. It is likely both glasses are by the same engraver for they depict a very similar horse and the treatment of the grass underfoot is remarkably similar. The depiction of the battlefield with figures and horses actually crossing the Boyne is exceptional on a Williamite glass.
