A rare Swansea Pottery saucer dish, circa 1805

Painted in the centre with a Welsh mountain landscape, two trees in the foreground, probably by Thomas Pardoe, within a gilded border, the rim also gilt, 20.3cm diam (chipped, some very slight staining and wear)

Footnotes

A group of similar pieces, probably originally part of the same service, are illustrated by E Morton Nance, The Pottery and Porcelain of Swansea and Nantgarw (1942), pl.XXVIF and discussed at p.61 where the waterfall on the matching saucer dish to this lot is suggested to be that at Aberdylais. A mug painted in similar style, also attributed to Pardoe is illustrated by Helen Hallesy, catalogue of the Swansea Pottery Collectors' Exhibition 2006, fig.8.29, p.91. A related mug or small can was sold by Bonhams 2 November 2015, lot 252.
