A rare Worcester teabowl and saucer and a coffee cup, circa 1754-55

Of octagonal form, the cup with a scrolled handle, pencilled in black and coloured in famille verte style with red, purple and pale yellow chrysanthemum flowers issuing from green rockwork, wispy grasses and flowering plants to either side, various insects in flight above, the saucer 12.2cm wide (3)

Footnotes

The subtle colouring, shallower saucer and green rockwork suggest a date a few years later than the rather more crudely painted version of this pattern issued around 1753-54. For a similar teabowl and saucer, see Simon Spero, The A J Smith Collection (2005), no.115, p.210. See also no.113, p.208 for a slightly earlier version with turquoise rockwork.
