An important garniture of three Richard Chaffers Liverpool vases, one with a cover, circa 1758-60

Of hexagonal form, comprising two beakers and one baluster vase and cover, painted in blue with Chinese landscapes within petal shaped panels below the rim and above the foot, alternating with panels of whorl diaper ground, the centre vase 29.5cm high, the beakers 22cm (very fine hairline in centre vase, cover with fine crack to inner flange) (4)

Footnotes

Illustrated by Maurice Hillis, Liverpool Porcelain (2011), fig 5.183, p 217. Although a range of vase shapes was produced at the factory, these forms are very rare and the survival of a complete garniture is quite remarkable. A single but larger hexagonal vase and cover is illustrated at fig 5.182, p 216.
