Footnotes

Parts of this design occur in The Ladies' Amusement, signed 'C.Fenn Invt' and 'C.Fenn delin' but the name of the engraver is not given. In the past it has been attributed to Robert Hancock and is discussed by Cyril Cook, the Life and Works of Robert Hancock (1948), item 58 where a similar plaque is illustrated at fig.2. Horace Walpole listed 'a kingfisher and ducks of the Battersea enamel' in his catalogue of specimens at Strawberry Hill in 1784.
