Footnotes

Provenance:
Anon sale, Sotheby's 9 February 1993, lot 101
The Hida Takayama Museum of Art, inv.no.H50
Sotheby's sale 19 December 2002, lot 44
A British private collection

Literature:
Illustrated by Ray and Lee Grover, English Cameo Glass (1980), col. pl.C52.

This simple vase has a subtle beauty all of its own, created by the use of a textured background etched with tiny dots and fire-polishing to the cameo fruit and leaves. These two extra stages in the production of this vase will have added much to its cost and justified the use of the 'Gem Cameo' mark.
