This lot is accompanied by an envelope inscribed in ink 'Particulars of "Cameo Vase" by George Woodall of Webb & Sons, April 1929'. The typed note inside is inscribed...

"Cameo Vase"
By George Woodall of Webb & Sons London.
This "cameo" was especially made as an exhibition piece for the Jubilee Exhibition in 1887, & represents the finest examples of "Cameo" work by Webb & Sons. It was purchased at the exhibition by a collector for 100 guineas...'

Thomas Webb's cameo glass was represented at most international exhibitions and the firm particularly favoured the Australian market. The vase may well have been created especially for this display in Adelaide with the Woodall team choosing exotic birds and plants that would have appealed to the Australasian market.
