An important pair of large French opaline vases, circa 1845

The enamelling attributed to Jean-François Robert, of ovoid form with spreading feet and trumpet necks, enamelled with groups of lovers in rural landscapes, surrounded by rich gilded borders of scrollwork and blue, pink and purple flowers, elaborate gilded borders around the feet and necks 49.5cm high (some wear to the gilding) (2)

A pair of Baccarat vases from the Hida Takayama Museum of Art with related decoration attributed to Robert were sold by Sotheby's on 19 December 2002, lot 85. See Y Amic, L'Opaline Française au XIXe Siécle for a discussion on Robert who usually obtained his blanks from the Choisy-le-Roi factory.
