Footnotes

Provenance:
Sold by Christie's 18 November 1975, lot 34 (as Baccarat)
The Léon Darnis Collection

While cherries weights were a speciality of St. Louis, this weight differs from the usual St Louis arrangement of two cherries, set within weights that are usually faceted. The thin strands that suspend the fruit in the present example occur in other fruit weights published as of unknown origin and similar stems occur in some Pantin fruit weights. Compare the examples sold by Bonhams from a San Francisco Estate, 15 June 2011, lots 265-268.
