A St. Louis paperweight vase, circa 1845-50

The delicate trumpet vase with white latticinio swirl inclusion and a trailed blue rim, a knop at the base of the vase set on two mereses above a patterned millefiori paperweight, six composite canes set in clear glass within a green and red garland, 15.7cm high, the paperweight 5.7cm diam

Two paperweight vases of the same basic shape, dated 'SL 1845' suggest that these were some of the earliest productions of the paperweight workshops, see the exhibition Objects of Fancy, Corning Museum of Glass (2001), figs.5 and 27.
